Absorbency and barrier performance are separate

The paper face absorbs liquid; the backing resists passage through the bib. A product can absorb quickly but have an inconsistent backing, or have a strong film but poor wet strength. Sample evaluation should therefore examine both functions.

For an internal comparison, apply the same measured liquid volume to equal-sized samples on a standardized surface. Record spread, time to visible penetration, delamination and wet handling. The result is a purchasing comparison, not a clinical performance claim unless a validated method supports it.

Dental bibs are not a substitute for PPE

CDC Standard Precautions identify gloves, masks, protective eyewear, face shields and protective clothing as PPE selected according to expected exposure. A patient bib has a different role and should not be used to replace PPE or a procedure-specific sterile drape.

When purchasing gowns, masks, surgical drapes or packs, request the exact intended use, labeling, material performance and destination-market documentation for those products. Do not extend a bib specification or certificate to other protective items.

Single-use handling and storage
